About This Fundraiser
The situation in North Korea is so often sensationalized in the media. We know the brutalities of this regime, their threats and injustices. Memoirs are a powerful tool to both educate and help survivors cope with their experience. But without action, we are little more than voyeurs to this situation.
Ever since I moved to Korea, I have volunteered and donated to help when I can. However, this is the first time that I’ve attempted to fundraise for operations that rescue North Korean refugees and bring them to South Korea, where they are granted asylum and given aid to help them integrate. While their struggles do not end there, they are no longer at risk of being deported back to North Korea to face prison camps and death.
Please help me in raising 500,000 Won (or $500USD) to go towards the $20,000 needed to bring 8 refugees to South Korea.
Runners for R4R register to run in the Kim Dae-Jung Peace Marathon in Seoul on June 12, while committing to fundraise for Citizens' Alliance for North Korean Human Rights (NKHR) Rescue Fund. Our goal is to raise $20,000 total to help 8 North Koreans safely reach South Korea from China, where they face human rights abuses.
