Cait Cronin for R4R 2016

Hi all~! As Chief Coordinator of Running 4 Resettlement 2016, I'm raising money to bring North Korean refugees safely to South Korea.

I have visited the DPRK, and experienced first-hand the warmth and spirit of North Koreans in their own country. For the past 3 years, I have also volunteered teaching English to resettlers-- motivated students who want to attend school alongside their 'brothers' and 'sisters' here in the South. One student I have become particularly close to is Daeun, who I wrote about last year in the Fulbright Korea Alumni Association Newsletter (on page 6 here: http://www.fulbright.or.kr/2015-4-24_Fulbright_Newsletter.pdf). These days she is working harder than ever and is even applying to study abroad in the U.S. this summer! I am helping her prepare now; the essay pictured here is hers, and truly shows her passion for making the world a better place.

Daeun and the other North Koreans I've met are some of the kindest and funniest people I've ever known-- but it is difficult for them to succeed both at home and in the international community. So on June 12, I've once again committed to running a 5k in Seoul (me? exercise? who'da thunk it?) to help raise awareness for North Korean refugees who have made the brave choice to leave their home in search of better opportunities.

Runners for R4R register to run in the Kim Dae-Jung Peace Marathon in Seoul on June 12, while committing to fundraise for Citizens' Alliance for North Korean Human Rights (NKHR) Rescue Fund.
