About This Fundraiser
Thank you for considering giving a few dollars to this meaningful cause. Here is some more information.
***WHO: Erin, Howl, Nikki, Gao and friends
***WHAT: We are running a 5k race at the Kim Dae-Jung Peace Marathon in Seoul on June 12th.
***WHY: To raise money for Citizens' Alliance for North Korean Human Rights(NKHR). This organization helps to safely bring North Korean defectors from China (and other countries) to South Korea.
***WHY IT'S IMPORTANT: Most of NKHR's rescuees come from China and many face the threat of repatriation to North Korea, where they will likely be put into prisons, tortured, or worse. Because they have to live in hiding, North Korean refugees, especially women, often fall victim to labor and sex trafficking in third countries. It costs about $2,500 USD to rescue one person and bring them safely to South Korea. We want to contribute.
*************************MORE INFORMATION ON R4R and NKHR*****************************
Running for Resettlement (R4R) started in 2014 with a group of Fulbright grantees in Korea who wanted to help North Korean defectors. In its first year, R4R raised almost $10,000 for organizations such as Liberation in North Korea (LiNK) and the Wooridul School. Last year, 90 runners raised over $17,000 for the NKHR Rescue Fund.
(**R4R is NOT affiliated with the Fulbright Program or the U.S. State Department.)
This year, all funds raised will again be donated to NKHR Rescue Fund. Founded in 1996, Citizens' Alliance for North Korean Human Rights (NKHR) is one of the oldest organizations devoted to North Korean human rights, doing everything from rescue work to resettlement programs. The Rescue Fund is a volunteer group within NKHR that holds events to raise money to rescue North Korean refugees in third countries.
Thank you for taking an interest in this important cause!
