About This Fundraiser
Hey everyone~! As most of you know, I'm currently living in Jeonju, South Korea. While living here, I've been lucky enough to meet dozens of interesting people from all walks of life. One wonderfully energetic teacher I've met is helping organize a fundraising initiative called Running 4 Resettlement. The purpose behind this initiative is to raise both money and awareness for the current situation in North Korea and to raise money to help rescue refugees in third countries who are trying to make their way to South Korea. This is no small feat--it takes $2500 to bring one refugee to South Korea and can take as many as ten years.
Now you might be wondering why I’m telling you all this? Starting today, I’m going to join my friend in raising money for this cause and I hope you’ll join me! If you donate, 100% of donations will go directly to Citizen's Alliance for North Korean Human Rights (NKHR) Rescue Fund. As for my end of the deal, I’m going to be participating in a partial marathon. Along with many of my friends, fellow teachers, and hundreds of other people who care about the cause, I will be doing a 5k in the Kim Dae Jung Peace Marathon, held on Sunday, June 14. That’s where you come in. I’d love it if you could help sponsor me, even if it’s just a dollar. If you can’t do that much, please do me a huge favor and read my friend’s great article on her experiences both in the DPRK and in our town here, teaching English to refugees. Her story can be found on page 6 here: http://www.fulbright.or.kr/2015-4-24_Fulbright_Newsletter.pdf
If you want more information about what I’m doing or the cause I’m supporting, please check out this website: http://running4resettlement.weebly.com/ . There, you can see a map of where I’ll be running, read about the fund, and find out more about the amazing people who are organizing this event. Anything you can do is appreciated, even if it’s to just click on those two links and read the articles. Thanks so much~!
